The Association originally known as the United States Tennis Registry was formed in 1976, by world famous tennis coach, Dennis Van Der Meer.

It is second  largest certified tennis teachers association, with over 10,000 members in over 122 countries.

They have a direct impact on how the game is taught to players young and old.

Many country clubs will not hire a teaching pro if they are not certified, and some will only hire PTR certified professionals.
