Wallmart vs. Wimbledon
You are looking for a date, a soul mate a
love interest, a friend, a confident and you decide to try the most
popular form of meeting people in the new millennium, online
dating!
You probably
have found the popular dating destinations online or caught some kind of advertising for them on radio,
TV, magazines, billboards or even your postal mail box, services
like match.com, yahoo personals, cupid.com etc.
All of these sites have one thing in
common, they are huge, they feature a large database of people
looking for love, and in the case of match.com, several millions
have signed up and they've gotten so big that they market their
membership under different names to other non-competing services.
You don't want to
date a million people, you would need a thousand lifetimes just to weed out
the losers. The big services have realized this problem and are now
creating sub categories by interests.
That's all good but
where will you find true knowledge about tennis balls, from the floor
clerk at the local super WallMart sports dept. or at your local
tennis shop?
The answer is
obvious, the format that you need is the one at the big W, Wimbledon
that is, not the satisfy everybody flavor at Wallmart approach.
Match.com and
others are simply too big to meet your needs, further more the balls
found at Wallmart will not be of the same match quality as the one
you find at your local country club. If you take 10 people in random
at least six will tell you that they play tennis, out of that
six, three will not remember the last time they played, two will not
know where to find there rackets and maybe one (if you're lucky) will
have played a year or so ago.
But here at
Tennisonic...
everyone plays, that's the requirement, you are among friends and
among people with the same major interest and passion, you have
something to talk about, you can relate right off the bat.
You've heard about
speed dating and several other gimmicky ways to meet and evaluate
someone for compatibility, there's nothing like playing a tennis
match with someone, may it be singles or doubles, by the time the
match is over you will have a good idea about that person and
whether you want to be on the same court with them ever again.
If the guy shows up
in cut off jeans, Billie Jean King wooden racket, multi colored
balls and says "let's go volley some", it's time for you to twist
your knee and get out of there fast.
I guarantee you that such a
person does not exist here, we may not have a million members
(almost 6000 and growing), but at the same time we do not have Joe Schmo who falsely believes that he's a tennis player.
Our members are
avid tennis fans, most play on a regular basis, many have
participated in league play and some have competed in sanctioned
tournaments. You have solved the number one
obstacle in finding not only a date but someone to spend time with,
common interests, and here the common force is tennis.
In my 29 years of
watching, learning, playing, competing, coaching and promoting
tennis, I have found that tennis players have similar interests
on and off the court. Tennis being such a demanding sport, requiring
a certain kind of personality who's willing to persists and learn by
non-stop repetition while performing an activity requiring much
effort and dedication. It takes a certain kind of person to play,
stay with and make tennis their love and passion.
The first thing to
do is post a profile, then reply to as many profiles as possible,
schedule a match at your respective club or park, the worse that can
happen is that you played tennis with someone whom you don't want to
be romantically involved with. The mutual evaluation on the court is
fun, get together with the members, schedule matches, chat, talk,
reply post and reply to profiles, meanwhile I will continue to do my
best to put tennis players in tennis heaven.
Next week, learn
how to evaluate the tennis profile
before you reply
