The ATP Tour
Brief history of the ATP Contrary to popular belief the formation of the Association of tennis professionals (ATP) in 1972 did not start the open era, which had begun four years earlier in 1968.

The association which is now known as the ATP Tour controls and provides support for all male touring  professionals.

The association broke away from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Men's International Professional Tennis Council (MIPTC) in 1989 and took control of all male events except the four majors (Australia, French, Wimbledon, US Open)

Why are they a tennis power They are similar to the NFL, NBA, or FIFA, if you are a male tennis player and you want to earn money playing tennis as a professional, you have to belong and join the ATP tour.

The presentation of the tournaments and world image of the game (male) is controlled by ATP
